About the Organization:
The Smart Waterloo Region Innovation Lab (SWR) is a government-supported initiative that aims to improve the well-being of children and youth in the Waterloo Region through innovative, community-driven solutions.
Problem:
Nonprofits struggled with inefficient data collection and management systems, while community members had limited control over their personal information. Traditional systems lacked transparency and made it difficult for individuals to manage or revoke access to their data.
My Approach:
Technical Learning & Research:
Self-taught complex Web3 technologies including blockchain, Hyperledger Fabric, and Hyperledger Aries
Conducted extensive research on data sovereignty and privacy best practices
Analyzed existing nonprofit data management systems to identify pain points
Solution Architecture:
Served as hands-on Product Owner, leading both technical vision and design execution
Designed system architecture prioritizing data ownership and user privacy
Developed specifications for secure data management and user control features
User Experience Design:
Worked closely with the UI/UX team to simplify complex blockchain interactions
Created intuitive interfaces for both nonprofit administrators and community members
Designed unified user flows across web, Android, and iOS platforms
Implemented clear data control mechanisms for personal information management
Implementation & Testing:
Led development team through agile sprints and feature iteration
Coordinated regular testing cycles with nonprofit partners
